When the delagates for the constitutional convetion gathered there was many different political views and backgrounds.For example, they argued about how many representatives each state should be allowed.

The problem that the framers of the constitution had was the smaller states wanted equal representation, one state one vote. The larger states wanted proportional representation.

Large States:

-favored proportional representation

-plan was the New Jersey Plan

-some major supporters were James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, James Wilson, Edmond Randolph.



Small states:

-favored equal representation

-plan was the Virginia Plan

-some major supporters were Gunning Bedford jr. and William Paterson.
